UNDERSTANDING CHEMICAL DPC
How Does DPC Injection Cream Work?

Rising damp occurs when ground moisture moves upwards through porous masonry by capillary action.

PAMDry DPC Injection Cream is a silane/siloxane-based treatment designed to create a water-repellent zone within a suitable horizontal mortar course.

The cream is introduced into a series of predrilled holes in the wall. Its active ingredients spread into surrounding masonry and help reduce capillary moisture movement.

Where rising damp has been properly diagnosed, an appropriately installed chemical damp-proof course can form part of the remedial treatment.

It is not a cure for leaking pipes, rain penetration, condensation or other unrelated moisture problems.

Reasons to Choose PAMDry
  • Designed for chemical DPC installation
  • Ready-to-use cream formulation
  • Suitable for specified masonry types
  • Cartridges and bulk packs available
  • Useful for trade and suitable DIY work
  • Can be installed without pressure injection
  • Compatible finishing work may follow treatment
APPLICATION OVERVIEW
How to Install DPC Injection Cream

This is a general overview for suitable masonry. Always follow the current PAMDry instructions and the applicable damp-proofing specification.

01
Diagnose & Prepare

Confirm the cause of damp. Check wall construction, external ground levels, existing DPC and any defects that may be causing moisture.

02
Drill the Mortar Joint

PAMDry guidance describes 12mm holes approximately every 100mm along the selected mortar course. Required hole depth depends on wall thickness and construction.

03
Inject the Cream

Remove drilling dust and use compatible injection equipment. Fill the holes in accordance with product instructions, allowing the cream to disperse into the masonry.

04
Make Good & Refinish

Close the holes as instructed. Allow the wall to dry and address salt-contaminated plaster with a compatible replastering specification.

Solid, cavity and irregular stone walls can require different injection arrangements. Follow the specific manufacturer guidance and seek specialist advice where needed.

PRODUCT BUYING GUIDE
310ml, 1 Litre or Bulk DPC Cream?

The right pack size depends on the length of wall to be treated, masonry thickness and the application equipment available.

310ml cartridges are a practical choice for smaller repairs and customers using a standard compatible sealant gun.

1-litre cartridges allow more cream to be dispensed from one jumbo cartridge, using the appropriate applicator.

5-litre and 10-litre packs suit larger jobs where compatible bulk dispensing equipment is available.

Bulk formats offer lower listed prices per litre, but the total project cost should also account for application equipment, labour and wall preparation.

Choosing the Correct Pack
  • Identify the wall construction
  • Measure the total DPC treatment length
  • Confirm wall thickness
  • Calculate estimated cream requirements
  • Allow for wastage and irregular masonry
  • Check the gun or injection pump required
  • Check whether more than one leaf needs treating
  • Confirm the damp diagnosis before purchasing
DPC CREAM COVERAGE
How Much DPC Injection Cream Do You Need?

Quantities depend on the wall type, thickness, drilling pattern and manufacturer instructions.

Format Total Cream Example Use
Single 310ml310ml Shorter treatment runs
4 x 310ml1.24 litres Multiple shorter sections
Single 1 litre1 litre Longer treatment runs with jumbo gun
3 x 1 litre3 litres Larger planned DPC work
5 litre bulk pack5 litres Professional larger-area treatment
10 litre bulk pack10 litres Extensive treatment programmes
Important: Wall Thickness Changes Usage

A thicker wall normally requires more injection cream per linear metre than a single-skin wall.

PAMDry product guidance gives approximately 3 linear metres per 310ml cartridge for a 4.5-inch single-skin wall. Treat this as a planning indication, not a universal coverage guarantee.

Always calculate the required volume for the actual wall and follow the current product data sheet. Irregular stone and cavity walls may require a different approach.

DAMP DIAGNOSIS MATTERS
Is Your Problem Really Rising Damp?

Rising damp is only one potential source of moisture in buildings. Similar-looking staining can be caused by condensation, plumbing leaks, rainwater penetration or ground levels bridging an existing damp-proof course.

Before installing a chemical damp-proof course, investigate gutters, drains, plumbing, ventilation, external ground levels and wall construction.

Moisture meter readings alone cannot establish the precise source of damp.

Where the cause is uncertain, arrange a competent damp survey before drilling or applying chemical treatment.

Checks Before DPC Injection
  • Inspect existing damp-proof courses
  • Check rainwater goods and drains
  • Inspect external ground levels
  • Look for plumbing leaks
  • Consider condensation and ventilation
  • Identify salt-contaminated plaster
  • Check timber and floor conditions
  • Confirm masonry type and suitability
AFTER DPC INSTALLATION
Why Walls May Need Replastering

Installing a chemical damp-proof course does not immediately dry an existing damp wall.

Residual moisture may remain within masonry for a significant period. Previous dampness can also leave hygroscopic salts in the original plaster.

These salts can continue to affect decorative finishes even after the underlying capillary moisture supply has been addressed.

A suitable salt-resistant replastering system or compatible damp-proof membrane may be required as part of the full remedial specification.

The correct approach depends on the wall construction, condition and moisture investigation findings.

HELP & ADVICE
DPC Injection Cream FAQs

Answers to common questions about chemical damp-proof courses, cartridges, coverage and installation.

What is DPC Injection Cream?

DPC Injection Cream is a chemical damp-proofing treatment introduced into suitable masonry to form a water-repellent zone that helps resist capillary rising moisture.

What is PAMDry DPC Injection Cream used for?

PAMDry is intended for chemical damp-proof course installation where rising damp has been correctly diagnosed in suitable masonry.

Can DPC Injection Cream stop rising damp?

A correctly designed and installed chemical DPC can control capillary rising damp in suitable walls. It cannot solve leaks, condensation or penetrating damp.

Can I inject DPC cream myself?

Some straightforward applications can be undertaken by competent DIY users following the manufacturer's instructions. Difficult wall constructions or uncertain damp diagnoses require professional advice.

What size holes are used for PAMDry DPC Cream?

PAMDry guidance describes 12mm holes at approximately 100mm intervals in the selected mortar course. Hole depth and layout depend on the wall construction.

How many holes can one 310ml cartridge fill?

The number depends on the diameter and depth of each hole. Calculate requirements using the actual wall thickness and current product coverage guidance rather than a fixed number of holes.

How far does a 310ml cartridge go?

PAMDry guidance indicates approximately 3 linear metres of DPC in a 4.5-inch single-skin wall per 310ml cartridge. Thicker or irregular walls will require a different volume.

Can I use a standard sealant gun?

The 310ml cartridges are intended for a compatible standard sealant-type applicator. Jumbo 1-litre cartridges and bulk packs need suitable equipment.

What is the difference between 310ml and 1-litre packs?

Both provide PAMDry DPC Injection Cream, but the cartridge sizes and application equipment differ. The 1-litre packs are designed for compatible jumbo dispensing equipment.

Which DPC Cream pack is cheapest per litre?

Of the prices listed on this page, the 10-litre bulk format has the lowest unit price at £14.40 per litre.

Can I use DPC Cream in stone walls?

Some stone masonry can be treated, but irregular walls and rubble cores require special consideration. Confirm suitability and installation details with the manufacturer or a competent specialist.

Can DPC Cream be used in cavity walls?

Cavity walls may require each masonry leaf to be assessed and treated according to the chosen injection method. Follow the manufacturer instructions for cavity construction.

How quickly will my walls dry after injection?

Drying time varies with wall thickness, moisture content, ventilation and environmental conditions. The chemical DPC does not instantly remove existing moisture from masonry.

Do I need to remove the old plaster?

Salt-contaminated or deteriorated plaster may require removal and replacement with a suitable system. This depends on the damp diagnosis and remedial specification.

Does DPC Cream work for penetrating damp?

No. DPC injection is intended to address capillary rising damp. Penetrating damp requires investigation and repair of the relevant source of water ingress.

Will DPC Injection Cream stop condensation?

No. Condensation requires attention to humidity, ventilation, heating and surface temperatures. A chemical DPC is not a condensation treatment.

What is a chemical damp-proof course?

A chemical damp-proof course is a remedial water-repellent zone introduced into appropriate masonry to restrict capillary upward movement of moisture.

Should I check the wall before injecting?

Yes. Assess the wall, existing DPC, moisture sources, masonry type and required treatment level. Correct diagnosis is essential before chemical DPC installation.
