Damp Proof Mesh Membrane Kit – 1m x 10m PB2 Professional Damp Proofing Solution for Rising Damp, Penetrating Damp & Salt-Contaminated Walls
Our easy-to-use Damp Proof Mesh Membrane Kit – 1m x 10m PB2 provides a practical solution for protecting internal walls affected by rising damp, penetrating damp and difficult salt contamination problems.
Featuring a high-quality 2.5mm mesh-faced damp proofing membrane, this kit creates a protective barrier between damp masonry and new plaster or render finishes, helping prevent moisture and damaging salts from affecting the finished wall surface.
The kit contains the essential membrane, fixings and sealing accessories required to damp proof up to 10 square metres of wall area, before allowing for overlaps, cuts and wastage.
Designed for use on internal walls above external ground level, the PB2 mesh stud membrane provides a suitable base for compatible plaster and render systems.
Ideal for damp-affected walls, chimney breasts, property renovations and remedial damp proofing projects.
What’s Included in the Damp Proof Mesh Membrane Kit?
- 1 x 1m x 10m PB2 Mesh Membrane Roll – High-quality 2.5mm mesh-faced stud membrane providing 10m² of nominal coverage.
- 100 x Large Head Plaster Plugs – Mechanical fixings for securing the membrane to suitable masonry substrates.
- 1 x 8/160 SDS Drill Bit – For drilling fixing holes during membrane installation using a compatible SDS drill.
- 1 x 100mm x 10m Butyl Fleece Over Tape – For sealing and detailing membrane joints in accordance with the installation system.
Key Features & Benefits
Helps Protect Against Damp and Salt Contamination
The membrane creates a physical separation between the original masonry and new internal wall finishes. This helps protect plaster and render from moisture and damaging salts associated with rising and penetrating damp.
2.5mm Mesh-Faced Stud Membrane
The PB2 membrane incorporates a mesh facing designed to provide a mechanical key for compatible plaster and render finishes.
Ideal for Internal Walls Above External Ground Level
Designed for suitable internal wall applications above the external ground level, making it a practical choice for many residential damp proofing and refurbishment projects.
Complete Installation Kit
Includes the membrane, 100 large head plaster plugs, SDS drill bit and butyl fleece tape, allowing the main membrane installation materials to be purchased together.
10m² Nominal Coverage
The 1m x 10m roll provides 10 square metres of membrane, making it suitable for medium-sized walls and renovation projects.
Suitable for Use On
- Brick walls
- Concrete walls
- Blockwork
- Stone masonry
The substrate must be structurally sound and suitable for the specified fixing method.
Best Used For
- Damp proofing internal walls above external ground level
- Managing the effects of rising damp
- Protecting internal finishes from penetrating damp and salt contamination
- Applying compatible plaster or render directly onto the mesh-faced membrane
- Dry lining following the installation of a damp proof course
- Damp proofing chimney breasts
- Renovating older properties with damp-affected masonry
- Creating a protective separation layer between existing masonry and new decorative finishes
How to Install the Damp Proof Mesh Membrane
Cut the membrane to the required size and position it against the wall with the mesh facing outwards.
Drill through the membrane into the masonry and secure it using the supplied large head polypropylene plaster plugs, following the recommended fixing pattern and manufacturer’s installation instructions.
Seal membrane joints and relevant details using the supplied 100mm x 10m Butyl Fleece Over Tape, following the specified installation method.
Once the membrane is securely installed, apply the compatible plaster, render or specified wall finish.
Preparation Before Installation
A) Clean and Prepare the Wall
Clean the substrate thoroughly to remove loose debris, dirt and organic matter.
Existing plaster should generally be removed, as it can soften over time and weaken the fixing of the membrane to the wall.
Where existing render is sound and firmly attached, the membrane may be fitted directly over it.
Any damaged or loose render should be repaired or removed before installation.
B) Repair Damaged or Uneven Surfaces
Remove loose, crumbling or unstable render and complete any necessary local repairs.
Where the existing render is in very poor condition, complete removal may be necessary.
Aim to achieve as flat and even a surface as possible.
If the wall is particularly uneven, better results can be achieved by levelling it with a suitable sand and cement render before installing the membrane, rather than attempting to compensate for unevenness with additional plaster over the membrane.
C) Check for Mould, Rot and Surface Defects
A flat, uniform substrate helps ensure that the plaster or render applied over the membrane has a consistent thickness, reducing the likelihood of cracking.
Where evidence of mould or biological growth is present, treat the affected area with an appropriate fungicidal product before installing the membrane.
If wet rot or dry rot is suspected, the problem should be assessed and treated by a qualified remedial specialist before damp proofing work continues.
D) Installation Where a New Floor Slab Is Required
If a new concrete floor slab is being installed as part of the renovation, it is generally preferable to fit the wall membrane before laying the slab, where this forms part of the specified system.
The floor damp proof membrane should extend upwards in front of the wall membrane, with the junction correctly detailed in accordance with the waterproofing design before the concrete is poured.
Why Choose the PB2 Mesh Damp Proof Membrane Kit?
The PB2 1m x 10m Damp Proof Mesh Membrane Kit offers a convenient method of protecting internal wall finishes from damp and salt contamination without relying solely on traditional replastering methods.
Its 2.5mm mesh-faced stud membrane provides a physical separation between damp masonry and the new wall finish, while the mesh surface offers a key for suitable plaster and render applications.
With 100 large head plaster plugs, an SDS drill bit and 10 metres of butyl fleece tape included, the kit provides a convenient package for professional damp proofing contractors, builders and experienced DIY installers.
Whether you’re renovating a damp-affected room, repairing a chimney breast or carrying out remedial work after installing a damp proof course, this 10m² kit provides a practical membrane solution for suitable above-ground internal walls.
Important: Damp proof membranes help protect internal finishes from the effects of moisture and salt contamination. They do not necessarily eliminate the underlying cause of damp. Water ingress, leaks and other moisture sources should be properly investigated and addressed before installation.
